Tim Minchin

Tim Minchin is a musician, actor, writer and comedian.

He is the multiple Olivier and Helpmann Award-winning, Tony and Grammy nominated composer-lyricist of two stage musicals, Matilda the Musical and Groundhog Day.

He is the multiple Olivier and Helpmann Award-winning, Tony and Grammy nominated composer-lyricist of two stage musicals, Matilda the Musical and Groundhog Day. A feature film of Matilda the Musical was released in 2022.

As a singer-songwriter-pianist-comedian, he has toured the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand, selling out some of the world’s most iconic venues, including The Royal Albert Hall, The Sydney Opera House, and Wembley Arena. He has released four filmed specials, including Back (2022) and Tim Minchin Vs the Heritage Orchestra Live at the Royal Albert Hall (2012). His most recent tours, An Unfunny Evening With Tim Minchin and his Piano (2024) and Songs The World Will Never Hear (2025), sold hundreds of thousands of tickets in three continents.

His 2020 studio album, Apart Together, debuted at #3 on the Australian charts and in the top 30 in the UK, while his 2025 Album, Tim Minchin Time Machine, peaked at #1 in Australia and #12 in the UK.

Screen acting roles include his AACTA award-winning Lucky Flynn in Upright, Atticus Fetch in season 6 of Californication, Friar Tuck in Robin Hood (2018), a Logie award-winning Smasher Sullivan in the ABC's Secret River, and Darius Cracksworth in the Disney Plus series, The Artful Dodger. He is the head writer and a co-producer of Upright, his writing earning him an Australian Writer’s Guild (AWGIE) award.

Stage acting roles include his acclaimed Judas in the 2013-14 Arena Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, and Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead at the Sydney Theatre Company.

He was the voice of Shaun Tan’s Oscar winning The Lost Thing, of Pretty Boy in Netflix’s Back To The Outback and of Chihoohoo in Scary Girl.

He has written songs for Back To The Outback, the Netflix mini-series Eric, and Warner Bros’ The Cat In The Hat (2026). He composed and starred in the multi -award winning Sydney Opera House 50th birthday celebration song, Play it Safe and wrote I’m Not Remarkable for Apple.

He has released a graphic novel, Storm, and two children’s books. His first non-fiction book, You Don’t Have to Have a Dream, drawn from his three beloved University commencement speeches, is published in 7 countries and made the Sunday Times Best Sellers List.

He is a member of the Order of Australia and has received three honorary doctorates. Among many awards, he has won two Oliviers for Best Musical, a Logie for Best Supporting Actor, an ACTAA for Best TV Comedy Performance, an Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer, a Whats On Stage Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and The Richard Dawkins Awards for Science Communication. His acceptance speech for his UWA doctorate has been viewed over 150 million times.

Minchin is a philanthropist whose tours and activism have supported charities including Medecins Sans Frontieres, The National Autistic Society, Aspect Australia, Barnardo’s UK, Samaritans UK, Beyond Blue and multiple domestic violence charities around Australia among others.
